Nigeria High Commission

Canberra, Australia

Welcome Address by the High Commissioner

His Excellency, Prof. Sunday Oluwadare Agbi I am pleased to welcome you to the website of the Nigerian High Commission, Canberra, Australia. The essence of the website is to provide information to Australians and countries of the concurrent accreditation - New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji - as well as Nigerians in Diaspora about this Mission and its activities.

Although the primary objective of the High Commission is to engage the Governments and people of these countries in a meaningful dialogue with a view to encouraging investments in Nigeria, it is also to assist many talented and experienced Nigerians who are seeking assistance from the Mission.

Nigeria is a vast country with a population of almost one hundred and fifty million people (150m), it is well endowed with immense natural and human resources.

Nigeria is the 6th largest producer of oil in the world and has in abundance gold, uranium, tar sand, lime bauxite, diamonds etc. Its forest resources are enormous and its vegetation varies from swamp and rain, deciduous, and savannah forest, and because of this, the agricultural produce of the country are varied and enormous.

There is a boom in telecommunication services, which helps to bring Nigeria into the present process of globalization.

It is therefore, my pleasure to create a conducive environment for everybody in Australia and South Pacific to exchange ideas with the officers of this Mission. As an ardent believer in Open Door Policy, I welcome you all to share your experiences with us in the Mission. Do not hesitate to visit us in the High Commission as we are all here to serve you.

His Excellency, Prof. Sunday Oluwadare Agbi
High Commissioner of Nigeria.
